This will be the 3rd year that Kryptonics have sponsored The Crackling.
Rob Ashby their UK Brand Ambassador will be on the Slalom Hill at the
weekend. He will have some of the Kryptonics range of wheels for people to
try out including the new Limited Edition 80a Pinks and 84a Oranges so do go
and take a look.
For those of you not familiar with Kryptonics pedigree in the world of
skateboarding read on.
Kryptonics was founded in 1965 and originally manufactured polyurethane
products for the mining and computer industry. In the mid-1970s Jim Ford, a
young Kryptonics employee snuck into the factory after hours to create the
first Star Trac wheels with brilliant urethane chemist Chuck Demarest. The
company introduced the Kryptonics Star*Trac line of wheels that drastically
changed the functionality of skateboards. It was the first company to offer
wheels in colour coded durometers and to use millimetre sizing. Kryptonics
soon became the dominant wheel for all types of skateboarding, excelling on
all types of terrain and winning more races than any other wheel brand. In the
late 70’s the top professional skateboarders such as Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva,
Steve and Micke Alba, David Hackett, Boby Piercy, Tommy Ryan and many
others were sponsored by Kryptonics.
Today the Kryptonics brand is a subsidiary of Bravo Sports. Bravo owns
multiple brands and manufactures a variety of action sport and toy items. At
mass retail chains the Kryptonics brand appears exclusively on complete
skateboards at entry level price points.
Dusters of California (a division of Dwindle Distribution) wanted to bring back
the Kryptonics Star*Trac wheel brand for longboards and cruisers. Now
Dwindle license the Kryptonics Star*Trac name from Bravo and make high
quality wheels to sell to skateboard shops around the world. Dwindle does not
however produce, market or sell Kryptonics complete skateboards as found in
Wal-Mart stores in the US.
When they were re-introduced to the masses the new Kryptonics Star Trac
wheels were the only wheels that made the Silverfishlongboarding.com Top Ten Longboarding Products From 2013. If you visit the
you will see the rich history of these wheels. You will
also see post after post expressing the raw passion that skateboarders feel
for this truly iconic brand. Kryptonics goal is to share that history and passion,
and to make wheels that continue the lineage of performance that was
established in 1976.

Legendary 1970's vert skater Cindy Whitehead has been named Kryptonics First Female Brand Ambassador. Whitehead is a skateboarder, Sports Stylist and the founder and owner of the skateboard brand “Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word”
